My Thoughts: Superman vs. Batman

Emma Thomas states, “Whilst our Dark Knight trilogy is complete, we have every confidence that Zack’s fresh interpretation will take the character in a new and exciting direction. His vision for Superman opened the door to a whole new universe and we can’t wait to see what Zack does with these characters.”

Yeah, I think the only reason they are moving forward this route is because Marvel has them running for new ideas in order to make as much money as The Avengers did (1.6 billion, anyone?) There’s going to be people who disagree with me and say that this is a superb idea. I would have to agree; yeah it’s an excellent idea…but eventually. I think it’s being rushed. I have two reasons. 1)  We just met this new Superman (Zack’s vision.) Can we at least get used to him for a bit? 2) The Dark Knight Trilogy reinvented Batman the way he was supposed to be but it’s over now. A reboot of Batman means a new actor, interpretation, morals, value. We have no idea who this Batman is. I’d rather have them make a Justice League movie first. Hopefully, Zack doesn’t get the idea to reveal Batman’s identity to Gotham. I guess we just have to wait and see.

What do you guys think? Also do you like the Superman vs Batman picture?

  1. Why don’t they just make The Dark Knight Returns and set it in the future? I know that Snyder has a spotty track record when it comes to revisionist superhero graphic novels from the 80’s, but DKR has a less-convoluted, much-easier-to-digest plot than Watchmen, and would make a better movie.
Use the same actor from Man of Steel, just make him up to look older. And use whoever will play Batman in Justice League.

    • I can’t be certain but I believe Warners Bro own the rights to the trilogy and the contract ended. It gives them a chance to reboot Batman again. (I don’t think there will ever be a franchise as good as Nolans.) So,a Dark Knight Returns wouldn’t be plausible. That’s a good idea though a better idea than Superman v. Batman.

  2. I love Nolan’s trilogy more than you could possibly imagine. Only only thing could have made it better: Philip Seymour Hoffman as the Penguin, even in a cameo.
The problem is that there is nowhere to take the Batman character now. The only way to reboot the franchise and take it in a new direction will to make it campier.
Or: shake things up and pit Batman against Superman. There are all sorts of reasons to object to this concept, at least at this point in time, but at least it will forestall an out-and-out Dark Knight reboot for a few years.
